Upgrading RAM and SSD: Need Advice!

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my pre-built PC, which has a Ryzen 7 3700X and an Nvidia RTX 3060 12GB. It's around 5 years old but still runs well. I'm considering adding a Samsung 980 1TB SSD, but I'm also thinking about upgrading my RAM from 16GB to 32GB. I have a few questions: 1) Are the Samsung 980 SSD and G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB DDR4 RAM good choices, or are there better options? 2) Is it really worth upgrading the RAM if I'm not always gaming? I run a lot of background apps (like Chrome and Spotify), and when I play games like FF7 Rebirth, I notice RAM usage hitting around 12GB, which causes some lag. 3) What do I need to know for installation? Is it straightforward to just plug in the new RAM and SSD? Thanks for the help!

The Samsung 990 EVO Plus is another option; just check if it's cheaper for you. About the RAM, if you're mostly sitting around 12GB, the upgrade might not make a huge difference unless you're pushing your RAM limits. Check your current RAM speed and latency too!

I hadn’t checked the RAM speed; it’s currently 3200 MT/s. The new RAM I’m considering is 3600MHz. Not sure about latency, though. Thanks for pointing that out!

I would say skip the Samsung for your SSD; their prices are usually higher for no real benefit. There are plenty of good mid-range NVMe SSDs for much less. Also, your lag might not be solely a RAM issue, but getting more won't hurt you either!

Yeah, it really depends on what you plan to do with your storage. If you're using your SSD for games or important files, then going for a reputable brand is a smart choice.

I'd totally recommend the 32GB upgrade! You could also look at alternatives like WD Black SN770 for your SSD. It's a solid performer!

I looked into that, but unfortunately, they’re out of stock.

To really fix your stutters, I’d advise against both the Samsung SSD and the RAM upgrade. Instead, consider upgrading to the 5700X CPU. You'll see a noticeable boost in performance, especially in terms of frame rates and smoother gameplay!

That’s interesting! I checked, and it seems the 5700X is also out of stock around here. Is installing a CPU a tough job? It seems pretty straightforward from what I saw in videos.
