Upgrading RAM from 64GB to 128GB with Different Kits: What’s Best?

I'm currently working with a 64GB RAM setup, and it's starting to feel a bit cramped when running local image and video AI models. I often find myself having to close other applications to free up memory. I'm using DDR4 3600 with a Crucial Ballistix 2x32GB kit, but it's no longer available for purchase.

I'm on the lookout for another 64GB kit that would pair well with my existing RAM. Would it be advisable to buy a Crucial Ballistix kit with a lower speed, like 3200MHz, and just downclock my current RAM to ensure compatibility? Or should I consider other options, like the Patriot Viper 3600 or Ripjaws 3600? My setup includes an ASUS ROG Strix B550 motherboard and a Ryzen 5900X CPU.

If you can't find the exact same RAM kit, your best bet is to get RAM with the same speed and timings. Just know that there's no guarantee everything will work perfectly due to compatibility issues; that's what they call the Silicon lottery!

I see your point, but isn't there a chance someone else has faced a similar situation? Can’t I just set the better RAM to match the slower kit's speed in the BIOS? I’d be fine with 3200MHz if it means stability. I think the performance difference between 3200 and 3600 isn’t massive in day-to-day use anyway.
