Upgrading to AM5 from a 5950x: Need Your Recommendations!

Hey everyone! I'm a first-time poster looking for some advice on my upcoming PC upgrade. I've been using a 5950x with a Crosshair Hero VIII for a while, and while it has performed well, it's been running a bit too hot for my liking. I've saved up enough to finally make the switch to AM5, and I'm ready to purchase a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. I need around 8-9 USB ports at the back and will be keeping my Arctic Freezer II 360mm cooler since it's still quite new. I also plan to use my existing two NVMe drives without losing speed and will continue gaming with my Strix 3090 until the new GPU drops. My primary usage includes gaming and some video editing/art on the side, all at 1440p on dual 27" monitors and a 20" drawing tablet. My goal is to upgrade to AM5, achieve better performance than my 5950x, and keep my temperatures in check without overclocking too much. I'm currently eyeing a 9900x, but I'm contemplating whether I should go for a 7000 series x3d instead, even though I'm aiming to stick around a $700 budget. Any recommendations on the best CPU options considering my needs?

If you're looking for cooler options, the 9000 series is great. Just keep in mind that while the 7000 series might run hotter, they do perform well, especially if you're gaming primarily at 1440p. You should lean towards the 9900 for a balance between price and performance!

Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely think about that, especially knowing my focus is on 1440p!

Honestly, your 5950x is still a beast for gaming and productivity, so rather than rushing into an upgrade, maybe troubleshoot a bit more. If it's just a heat issue, replace the thermal paste if you haven't yet. An easy fix could save you the upgrade cost for now!

I appreciate the suggestion! I did replace the paste recently, but I guess I should double-check everything else you mentioned. I'm just eager for lower temps!

Something's off if your CPU is hitting 90 degrees while gaming. Make sure you’ve checked your airflow and cooling setup. There could be something simple causing those high temps!

Yeah, I thought so too! I've done a few tweaks, but it still runs warm. I guess I just need to keep looking into it.
