I'm trying to find a solid email client, but I'm really struggling. I don't need anything fancy—just the basics. Here's what I'm looking for: 1. It should let me read and send emails. 2. I don't want an app that gets overloaded with features; I just need an email inbox without a bunch of extras like a calendar. (Looking at you, Thunderbird.) 3. I'd love it if it sends me a notification for new emails, even when the app isn't open. Is there a reason none of them seem to do this? If possible, I'd also prefer something that looks nice on GNOME and is free and open-source (FOSS). Does anyone have recommendations that fit these criteria?

I switched from Thunderbird to Evolution when I faced issues with it on Linux Mint. Evolution does have calendar capabilities, but you can just use it for email like I do. It runs smoothly and has everything I need without the clutter.
You might want to check out Geary, BlueMail, or Evolution. Geary is definitely user-friendly, while Evolution is more of a comprehensive tool for email and other features—it’s been well-integrated with GNOME too. Give them a look and see if any fit your needs!
Consider trying Claws Mail. It's likely available in your package manager. While it won't win any beauty contests, it's been a reliable FOSS option for over 20 years. Just keep in mind, it might not meet all your aesthetic stretch goals!
Have you thought about just using the web version of your email provider? Browser notifications should do the trick for new emails without needing an extra app.
