I'm looking for alternatives to reCAPTCHA since they're pushing everyone to the reCAPTCHA Enterprise version by the end of the year. Using Google Cloud for reCAPTCHA has been frustrating because the UI is poorly designed. Plus, they require you to display their terms and conditions on all pages, which is a bit of a nuisance. Another concern is that reCAPTCHA has compliance issues in the EU, and Google's products are often blocked in several countries, including China. Because of these reasons, I'm on the hunt for a more privacy-focused and safer solution for personally identifiable information (PII).
I've heard about Cloudflare Turnstile, but it's not very customizable, and the big green circle can confuse users when there's an error. I've also looked into hCaptcha, which seems promising. What alternatives have you switched to that are effective and user-friendly? They don't have to be free!

I think Cloudflare Turnstile is great for anti-bot protection. It's tough to bypass, usually requiring a headful automation browser with mouse click emulation. I've used it in my project and found it way more challenging to automate than other captchas.
Plus, it's free for the vast majority of use cases!
I personally switched to hCaptcha, and it's been working fine for me. It's reliable and doesn't carry the privacy risks associated with Google products.
But does it really work well for your users? I've found hCaptcha frustrating, and I saw a drop in conversion rates because of it.
We use hCaptcha too and have had no complaints from our users. It's affordable and definitely feels safer.
My experience with hCaptcha wasn't great, but it was still better than reCAPTCHA. I also like Turnstile— it's slick and can work silently without user interaction. With Turnstile, we've seen a significant drop in bot submissions, it's been a game changer for us.
I've been using Turnstile without their widget, and it works seamlessly in the background. Our bot submission rate has dropped to zero since switching from hCaptcha. It’s definitely one of the best options out there!
Just a simple honeypot can do wonders if you aren't handling huge amounts of traffic. I use the Antispam Bee plugin on my sites and it’s been spam-free. However, I get that for enterprise use, you might want something sturdier.
I agree, honeypots are great for personal sites, but if you're expecting heavy traffic, you might need a more robust solution.

Absolutely! I had to use some advanced techniques with Selenium to get it working, like capturing screenshots while reloading to avoid detection. It really requires some creativity to fool the system!
