What are the best CPU and motherboard options for under $300 after a hardware failure?

I recently experienced a mishap where I broke my Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and my Gigabyte B450M S2H motherboard is now dead as well. I'm currently stuck with an RTX 2060 and 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and since I was planning an upgrade to something like a 5070 this summer, I'm wondering if I should switch to DDR5 or stick with DDR4. I need to get a new motherboard and CPU for under $300. What would you suggest for my current situation?

If you have to upgrade anyway, I'd suggest looking into options that support AM5, but that might be tough within your budget.

Yeah, AM5 typically costs more than $300, so you might need to consider alternatives.

That’s a tricky situation! I’d personally suggest looking at a build with a 7500F, but you might need to lower your RAM to 16GB if you want to fit everything in your budget.

Going with AM5 could be an option, but just like others mentioned, it might be hard to do it for less than $300.

For under $300, DDR5 isn't really an option. I recommend considering a Ryzen 5700 or something like an Intel LGA 1700 with a cheap 14400F. It’s possible to find a decent combo under budget, especially with the Raptor Lakes being priced down now.
