What Are You Spending on Laptops for Your Team?

I'm looking to see what others are typically spending on laptops since we're trying to cut costs heading into 2026. We've recently transitioned from being a Dell house to using Lenovo laptops. Initially, we ordered some X1 Carbons, but as we needed to be more cost-effective, we moved to the T14 and P14s models, which have served us well. Our baseline requirements are for Intel vPro or AMD Pro processors and at least 32GB of RAM due to the software we use. Right now, we're averaging about $1200 per device for fully loaded models with touchscreens. However, when I get quotes for stripped-down versions or cheaper options like the E14 or L14, they're often not less expensive than what we currently have, and sometimes even more for less features. Is $1200 a good price point for the specs we're receiving? What are others paying for similar setups?

Have you considered how long you typically keep your machines? Extending the lifecycle and just renewing the warranty can save a lot on costs. We usually aim for 3-5 years before replacements.

We aim for 3-5 years too, but some machines are already pushing their limits and need replacing, especially those with soldered RAM. It’s a struggle!

If touchscreens aren't a strict requirement, you might save a bit by opting for models without them. I’ve seen big price differences with and without on brands like HP.

Yeah, it’s strange. It seems like they’re incentivized by Intel to push touchscreens. Even if they weigh more and use battery life, it might not save you money.

Honestly, $1200 seems like a reasonable price now, especially with how memory and SSD prices are soaring. If your previous orders were in that range, I'd stick with what you're doing for now!

I agree! Prices have gone up so much in the last year, you might end up spending more if you hold off on purchasing.

It sounds like you're doing well on the pricing for those specs. Finding business-grade laptops below that might be a challenge. Have you thought about extending the time between refreshes instead?

That could be a smart move! Slowing down the refresh cycle could help manage costs without sacrificing quality.

For reference, our last batch of similar laptops were around $1800 CAD each, so your pricing seems to match pretty well! Just keep an eye on those spec requirements to avoid unnecessary costs.
