I recently bought a refurbished iPad Air 5th Gen from Apple and picked it up in-store, only to find it wouldn't turn on when I got home. After an hour on the phone with Apple support, they informed me that they can't replace it because they're out of stock in the UK, so they suggested I ship it back for a refund. They advised me to order a new iPad online and then call support to request a goodwill gesture refund for the new purchase. The support rep mentioned the gesture would be a 'generous' amount, but I'm curious about what that might actually be. How much can I realistically expect? Will it be around £5, £50, or something else? I'm hesitant to order another iPad after receiving a dead one.

I posted a similar question before. In this type of situation, I really don’t see why they owe you a gesture. It seems like a bad luck issue, and they’re refunding you fully, which is considerate. But I get your frustration.
Honestly, it's hard to say for sure. Apple doesn’t publicly disclose their goodwill gestures, so it’s really up to what their rep decides. They might give you credit or a discount, but it could also be something more discretionary based on your situation.
I understand how you feel. I spent hours driving to the store only to end up with a broken product, plus now I'm out £400 waiting for my next iPad to arrive.
