Hey everyone! I'm making the switch from an AM4 to an AM5 setup since updates for my current build have ceased. I haven't built a PC since 2019, and I've been a bit overwhelmed with the many options and horror stories I've read about failing components like GPUs. Currently, I've got a Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU and a PNY 5070 GPU with 12GB of VRAM.
I'm looking to complete my build and have a remaining budget of $800-$1000. I'm based in the USA for shipping considerations.
I want to upgrade to 64GB of RAM and am accustomed to air cooling, though I'm open to AIO coolers despite my worries about leaks. I've also been eyeing 870 motherboards but need help deciding which one or the best PSU for my setup.
Given the parts I already have, what do you recommend for the essential components like motherboards, PSUs, and RAM? Any guidance on ensuring I choose the best parts would be super appreciated! Thanks!

For your build, I suggest looking into the MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX motherboard. It's solid for AM5, plus it offers good features for the price. As for RAM, the Patriot Venom 64GB DDR5-6000 is a great choice to ensure your system runs smoothly. Don't forget about cooling — you might want to check out the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 cooler; it's reliable and won't break the bank. Overall, with the parts you've got, this combination should set you up nicely!
I totally hear you on not skimping on the power supply — it's one area you don’t want to cut corners! A Tier A PSU would be wise, and I personally like Corsair units. They’ve been dependable in my past builds. Just ensure it matches your wattage needs, especially since you're going for 64GB of RAM and a decent GPU.
Yes! A good PSU can save you from potential headaches later on. I'd also recommend checking out reviews for different models; some work better with AM5 setups than others.
Definitely agree with checking out that motherboard! MSI is known for making reliable boards. Make sure to factor in your case dimensions too, as some components can get pretty big!
