What does the ‘Device may be untrustworthy, unable to verify system’ message on my tablet mean?

I have a Lenovo Android tablet that powered down unexpectedly, and when I tried to turn it back on, I saw a message that says 'Device may be untrustworthy, unable to verify system.' It instructed me to press the power button once to continue, and after doing that, the tablet seems to work fine. I'm wondering what this message means and whether I should back everything up and factory reset the device. I tried accessing support for help, but I got locked out after using a VPN too many times. I've also uninstalled any suspicious apps, but I'm hesitant to turn it off again until I know if it will turn back on properly. Any thoughts on what this means or how to fix it? Thanks!

The message you’re seeing usually appears when the bootloader of your device is unlocked. It can indicate that your system's integrity can't be verified, often due to modifications or untrusted software. If the bootloader is indeed unlocked, it might be time to consider backing up your data and doing a factory reset to get a clean system. Just remember to check if important files are stored safely before proceeding with any resets!

How can I check if the bootloader is unlocked? Is that something I should be worried about?

You can generally check if the bootloader is unlocked in the settings, usually under Developer Options. If it’s always been unchecked, then there's a chance you may have downloaded something malicious. However, it's not always the case. If you’re cautious about this, running a malware scan could reassure you. Just be careful before making any big changes!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check that and see what I find.
