I'm putting together a new PC using a 9950x3d CPU and a GIGABYTE X870E AORUS Elite WIFI7 motherboard. I accidentally bought 256GB of RAM when my processor only supports up to 192GB. Will my CPU just ignore the extra RAM and only use 192GB, or will there be problems if I try to run with 256GB?

It’s likely that your PC won't boot up if you pop in that 256GB stick. It’s safer to stick with what the CPU supports. Just make sure you actually need that much RAM, because that's a hefty amount!
I’m curious what requires that much RAM? Are you running a lot of virtual machines or something? 128GB can be quite a bit in most scenarios, but if it’s packed with Docker containers and VMs, I get it!
Yeah, I’m running a development environment with 6 VMs! It's pretty RAM-intensive.
