What Hypervisors Are Best for Small Offices?

I'm trying to find some good hypervisor options for a small office/home office (SOHO) setup. Nothing too critical, but we will be running some important applications soon. Right now, I have a cluster set up with Proxmox VE (PVE) using three R720 servers and two R320 servers. I'm not a big fan of PVE, as I've been encountering issues with it. Most of my virtual machines are Linux-based, with only a couple of Windows VMs. What hypervisors would you recommend?

You might want to check out Xen or KVM. They've got a solid reputation. Hyper-V is a common choice, but I’m personally not a fan. Nutanix tends to require a larger setup, from what I've seen.

Xen looks interesting at first glance; I’ll definitely investigate further.

If PVE isn't working for you, here are some alternatives you might want to explore:
1. XCP-NG - pretty well-regarded.
2. Hyper-V - great if you're okay with Windows environments.
3. ESXi - just be mindful of the Broadcom situation with hardware compatibility.

I considered ESXi, but it seems to only support up to version 6.5 on my R720s, and I'm not planning to upgrade anytime soon. I'm leaning towards XCP-NG, though I've heard mixed reviews.

What specific issues are you facing with Proxmox? Maybe some troubleshooting could help sort them out.

Honestly, if you're struggling with Proxmox, it might just be a setup issue. Once configured correctly, it tends to be pretty reliable.
