I'm looking to buy an SSD to use as my boot drive and store all my files. How much Total Bytes Written (TBW) should I be aiming for? Any recommendations based on my usage would be great!

Thanks for the tip! Do you think it's necessary for a boot drive to have DRAM cache?

Absolutely! Having DRAM cache can really improve performance for a boot drive.

It really depends on what you're doing. If you're into content creation, you might want around 1,000-2,000 TBW, especially if you're editing 4K video a lot. For gaming, something between 200 and 300 TBW should be sufficient.

Aim for as much TBW as you can get without breaking the bank. Generally, 600 TBW is the average for a 1TB drive. The more, the better, but avoid lower numbers if possible!

I've been using a 1TB drive for my whole PC since 2019, handling both Windows and games, and I've written less than 100TB to it. TBW hasn't been an issue for me at all!

If you're going for a solid drive, try to get a TLC SSD. That should provide enough durability for general use.
