What is the WinGet process in Windows?

I noticed a process called WinGet running in my Task Manager and ended up closing it. I believe it's a legitimate Windows feature, but I'm concerned it might be exploited to install malware without my knowledge. I'm running a full Windows Defender scan to ensure my system is clean. Has anyone else come across this process, and can you provide more details about it?

Yeah, WinGet can appear in the Task Manager even if you're not using it directly. It's used in the background to handle installations and updates for various applications—Windows can utilize it for managing updates too!

So it's not something I need to worry about then, right? It’s built into Windows?

A quick search would have clarified that WinGet is the Windows Package Manager, which helps with installing software updates and applications. It’s perfectly normal for it to show up, so no need to worry!

Got it! So it’s not a threat if it’s used for system updates?

WinGet is actually a package manager for Windows, kind of like the ones you find in Linux. It lets you download and install software without needing to go to individual websites, which can be super convenient!

That's great to know! So, is it safe even if I haven’t actively used it?
