I'm looking for suggestions on lightweight Linux distributions for my ASUS X540BA laptop, which has an AMD A9-9425 dual-core processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a 480 GB SSD. I've heard recommendations for LXQt and XFCE desktop environments, but I'm uncertain about the best choice for performance given my hardware. Is my laptop too outdated, or can it still run a lightweight distro effectively?

Honestly, your CPU is on the lower end, similar to Intel Celerons, which makes running a lightweight desktop environment a good idea. I personally lean towards XFCE since it feels a bit more polished, even though it's slightly heavier than LXQt. It should still run fine on your laptop, though!

But why not go with LXQt? It might be more lightweight overall.
