I'm looking to install Linux on my laptop but I'm not very familiar with different Linux distributions. I've been considering options like Arch, Mint, and Ubuntu, but I would love to hear your recommendations. My laptop specifications are as follows: an Intel i5-9265U processor, 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 1TB HDD. I plan to use it for gaming and programming as a hobby, so I'm open to trying out new things and don't necessarily need a distro that mimics Windows. Any suggestions?

I moved from Windows to Pop!_OS and then tried Nobara, but I really liked Cachyos for gaming—it’s been smooth and responsive for me.
I use Mint for gaming and programming with no issues, especially with Nvidia. It’s considered beginner-friendly, but that just means it works well with minimal setup. I’ve even got it running on 40+ machines at my office without a hitch!
Definitely take a look at openSUSE or Fedora too! They are user-friendly and have good community support.
Check out Explaining Computers on YouTube; they have great videos on switching to Linux and choosing a distro. For beginners, Mint and Zorin are solid choices, along with Fedora. Arch is more of a DIY type of distro—great if you enjoy tinkering around with configurations, but not the best for beginners.
Ultimately, you need to decide what "better" means for you. If you want something lightweight that runs well and can handle gaming, Mint or Ubuntu might be your best bets as starting points. Both have great documentation which can help you a lot.
