I've been using Linux since October, starting with Ubuntu because it seemed user-friendly for someone transitioning from Windows. Lately, I feel like I've outgrown it and want to dive deeper into Linux. While I initially thought about jumping straight to Gentoo, that feels like a big leap for my current skill level. What medium-difficulty distributions would you recommend?

If you've got an extra computer, playing around with different distros could be the best way to understand their unique features. They all have different philosophies, but at their core, they are quite similar.
If you're looking for a bit of a challenge without going too far, Fedora or Debian might be good options. They're both great for stability and have a solid range of software available. If you're feeling adventurous, Arch is also great but you'll need to follow the Arch Wiki for the installation guide.
I'll check them out, thanks for the suggestions!
Fedora is a solid choice if you want something that just works with good support for various programs. If you prefer something a bit faster and don’t mind a bit of setup hassle, CachyOS is worth considering since it’s based on Arch.
Arch is an excellent way to learn about Linux, as it helps you understand how everything fits together. Gentoo does take that even further with compiling everything from source, but Arch gives you flexibility without being locked into that level of complexity. You can even automate the installation to make it easier!
Thanks for the detailed breakdown! It really helps clarify why Arch might be the right next step for me.
Have you thought about trying OpenSUSE Tumbleweed? It's rolling release and constantly updated. Gentoo is quite a task, even for seasoned users, but I can understand the allure of the challenge! I've personally found Tumbleweed and Mint to be reliable go-to choices.
I'm keeping Ubuntu for other projects, but I'm looking forward to exploring Gentoo later! It definitely seems like a fun challenge.

That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of that; it might be useful to test a few out.
