Hey everyone! I'm looking for recommendations on a Linux distribution that would work well for my laptop. Here are my specs: I have an HP Vîctus 17" with an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU, 64 GB of DDR5 RAM, and a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 (8GB) along with an AMD Radeon 780M integrated graphics. I'll be using it daily for coding and IT tasks (like setting up virtual machines), and I'm also interested in some gaming. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Honestly, your specs could handle just about any Linux distro. You might want to consider triple-booting with a Linux distro, Windows, and SteamOS for gaming. Just make sure to double-check that SteamOS is ready for your form of gaming if you go that route.

Just a note: SteamOS isn't really a desktop-friendly distro right now, so make sure you're aware of that before diving in.

Kubuntu is another option you might want to explore. It has a friendly interface and decent support for gaming and productivity tasks.

Ubuntu is an excellent choice due to its user-friendliness and robust community. Plus, it tends to have good hardware support, which is essential for your laptop's specs.

For cutting-edge support, rolling release distros like Cachy OS (based on Arch) or OpenSUSE Tumbleweed are worth considering. They tend to perform well with modern hardware and usually run smoothly. Just keep in mind that with newer updates, there's always a slight risk things could break, so having a backup system is advisable.

With those specs, you have plenty of options! If you're into tinkering and enjoy diving deep into custom setups, Arch Linux might be a good fit. However, if you want something stable and hassle-free, consider Debian or Ubuntu. Fedora is also solid, but my personal favorite is Debian for reliability. Just a heads up, trying a few out might help you find the one that feels right for you!

I gave Fedora and Cachy OS a shot, but I had some external monitor issues. Didn’t try Debian yet though; might just be worth a go!
