What part of my PC should I upgrade for better gaming performance?

I'm looking to upgrade my gaming PC but I'm not sure where to focus my efforts. Right now, I'm running an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, an Intel Core i5-9600k CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a TUF Z390-PLUS GAMING motherboard. I recently switched from console gaming and would like to enhance my PC experience, as I'm currently getting around 40-80 fps on low to medium settings. What would you suggest upgrading for a noticeable improvement?

Just a heads up, the 3060 came in different versions. If it’s a 6GB model, prioritize upgrading your GPU, but if it’s 12GB, then lean towards the CPU and motherboard for a better overall setup.

If you've got the 6GB version of the 3060, definitely upgrade to a better GPU and add another 16GB of RAM. Something like a 9060 XT would be solid for 1080p and decent for 1440p gaming. If it's the 12GB variant, then an upgrade to the CPU and motherboard would be smart, plus doubling your RAM. I’d recommend looking into the 5700X3D if you can find one at a decent price.

I think the main issues come from your CPU and motherboard; they're quite outdated. If you’re looking for the cheapest upgrade route, consider an AM4 setup where you can keep your RAM and GPU. That’d give you a significant bump in performance without a total overhaul.

Upgrading the GPU usually gives the best visual improvements, but your i5-9600K is starting to show its age too. If you can manage it, consider a newer GPU like the RTX 5070 for better gameplay. You can always plan for a CPU, motherboard, and RAM upgrade later when prices settle down.
