I recently upgraded to a 5070 from a 3060 Ti because the older card was slowing down. However, it turns out my power supply unit (PSU) is outdated—it only has 6-pin PCIe cables with 3 x 6-pin and 1 x 6+2 configuration. Plus, I'm pretty sure it's underpowered at 550W. I'm hoping to find a decent budget-friendly PSU (modular would be great, but it's not a must) that fits the 5070's needs.
Additionally, I was thinking about using the existing cables with an adapter to connect three 6-pin plugs to the two 8-pin blocks on the 5070. But I'm worried about safety and whether that could damage my PC or cause other issues. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you're looking for recommendations, the Montech Century II 850W is a solid choice, and for a little extra future-proofing, you might want to consider the 1050W variant. Just a heads up though—don't reuse your old PSU's cables; they might not be compatible, and it's best to stick with the cables that come with your new PSU.
I'm not looking to use the 3060's cables! I thought about using three 6-pin connectors with an adapter to make it work with the 5070, but you're right—it's best to just get a new PSU to avoid issues.
Totally agree, those Montech PSUs seem to be one of the better-priced options out there! Just ordered the 1050W version myself after reading the reviews. Good luck with your build!
Thanks for the recommendation! The price for that wattage and modularity is really nice. I'll definitely look into it.
