What Ryzen CPU should I get to upgrade my build with a 2060 Super?

I've just put together my first custom PC, moving on from a pretty outdated office setup. Right now, my specs are: an Asus B450-F Gaming motherboard, a Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, an RTX 2060 Super GPU, and 32GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM. I feel like my CPU is holding me back, especially for modern gaming. I'm looking to play at 1440p, around 60-144Hz, primarily on slightly older titles, so I don't need the absolute latest hardware. I was thinking about upgrading to the Ryzen 5 5500, but I'm open to suggestions for more recent processors that are compatible with my motherboard.

The Ryzen 5600 is definitely the preferred upgrade here. It allows for better future GPU options, but if you’re planning for a significant graphics upgrade down the line, the Ryzen 5700X3D would serve up to an RX 9070 XT pretty well. Just be cautious about the price of the 5700X3D, though!

I recommend the Ryzen 5600 for a good balance of performance. If you think you’ll upgrade to future graphics cards, you might also consider the Ryzen 5700X3D, but keep in mind it's pricier. Updating your motherboard's BIOS before upgrading the CPU is crucial!

The Ryzen 5600 is a solid choice for your setup. It should work well with your 2060 Super and give you room to upgrade to more powerful GPUs like the RTX 4070 or 3080 in the future without too much bottlenecking. Make sure to check your BIOS compatibility before upgrading!
