I recently encountered a message on my iPhone asking if I wanted to use it to reset my Apple password with options to 'allow' or 'don't allow'. Reflexively, I chose 'don't allow'. This same request popped up on my Mac as well, and I haven't done anything else on it. Is this a potential hacking attempt? I'm using an iPhone 16 Plus on IOS version 26.3.1 and would love some advice on how to handle this situation.

Even if you do click 'allow', it just opens the Settings app. It might be a case of someone mistyping their phone number or trying to access your Apple ID. Either way, keeping everything locked down is smart.
Definitely change your password! I once got a random pop-up saying my password needed updating, but when I tried, it didn’t work. After changing it, I checked my account activity and luckily nothing suspicious was found.
I wouldn’t allow it either. It's a good idea to update your password just to be safe. Also, try to check if there are any unfamiliar devices logged into your iCloud. Have you sold or misplaced any devices recently?
When you get an unexpected prompt like that, it's generally wise to not allow any action you didn't initiate. It sounds like someone could be trying to reset your password. Since you didn’t start the process, it’s best to keep it blocked on all devices.
If you didn't share your details with anyone, this is a good sign you should change your password. It seems like someone might have attempted to log into your account. Always better to be safe!
