I've been hearing about malware affecting iPhones, and I'm starting to worry that my phone might be infected since I haven't updated it in a while. If I update my iPhone, will the patch remove any malware? Or what steps should I take to ensure it's cleaned up?

If you've got a serious infection, the best bet is to perform a DFU (Device Firmware Update) restore on a trusted Mac or MacBook. Regular factory resets might not cut it if the malware is deeply embedded. You can do it yourself, just ensure your phone screen goes completely black to know you're in DFU mode.

Updating your phone can help remove some malware, but if you're really concerned about being infected, it's a good idea to factory reset your iPhone. Don't forget to change all your passwords and set up two-factor authentication from a clean device, just to be safe.

Honestly, today it's usually faster just to do a reset on any infected device. It beats trying to deal with the malware directly and ensures a clean start.
