What should I do if my CPU died and I can’t update the BIOS?

I have a Strix B350-F motherboard and my CPU just died unexpectedly. I picked up a Ryzen 5 5500 from Micro Center, but I found out I need to update the BIOS first. I attempted to use the BIOS flashback feature, but it seems that's not supported on this board, and I obviously don't have a functioning CPU to perform the update. What are my options here?

You have a couple of options here! One is to buy a cheap, older AM4 CPU just to update your BIOS and then return or resell it afterward. The other would be to just get a new motherboard altogether.

Keep in mind that the ASUS B350-F doesn't support USB flashback. If the BIOS is corrupted, it may need a chip replacement or re-flashing. If you're able to test the CPU on another working board, that can help you figure out if the motherboard needs replacing instead.
