What Should I Do If My New PC Won’t Boot?

Hey everyone, I need some advice on my new PC build that just won't turn on properly. I started putting together my PC in January after gathering parts one by one, with help from a friend who's experienced in building PCs. Once I had everything together in February, it powered up, but my monitor stayed black. I noticed the motherboard LEDs for the CPU and RAM were lit up, which got me worried about potential damage. I sent the CPU, RAM, and motherboard back on warranty, and the RAM came back fine. However, after months of waiting, the motherboard also passed inspection while I got a refund for the CPU.

Frustrated, I bought another CPU (same model) and put everything together again – still no luck! So, I purchased a new motherboard while my first one was returned. After reassembling it a third time with the new parts, I'm starting to wonder if it could be the RAM, even though I checked the compatibility lists and everything matches up. I'm completely stumped now. Can anyone offer advice on what steps I should take next? Here's my build:
- Case: Corsair 5000D
- PSU: Corsair RM850X
- Motherboard: MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
- RAM: Kingston Fury 2x32GB CL36 6000MHz
- SSD: Lexar NM 710 2TB
- GPU: Gigabyte RX 7800 XT

Looking back, I kind of wish I'd just paid to have it assembled at the shop. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure your RAM is seated properly. Sometimes they just need a little extra push to click into place. If you're not sure, it can't hurt to take them out and put them back in again. You could also share some pics of your connections if you think something looks off.

I remember when I first built mine, I thought I broke the motherboard trying to get the RAM in correctly. Just keep applying even pressure!

Absolutely, the RAM can be tricky! Check that it's lined up with the slots and seated properly.

Have you waited a bit after turning it on? Sometimes, AMD CPUs need some time to train the memory before they'll boot up properly. It's happened to me, where I thought it was broken but it just took a couple of minutes to post!

Yeah, I left mine for about 15 mins too just to see if it would work! Sometimes it feels like an eternity waiting.

True, it can be nerve-wracking! Just be patient, but if it doesn't work after a while, you might need to check other parts.

If you checked everything and it still won’t boot, it might indeed be a compatibility issue with the RAM. I’d try a different set of RAM sticks if you can, preferably from another brand, just to rule out that possibility.

Yeah, if all else fails, swapping out the RAM for a different set could point you in the right direction.

Good advice! It really does come down to these little things sometimes.

Alright, so let's start with the basics. Make sure your monitor is plugged in, turned on, and that the display cable is secured into both the monitor and the graphics card, not the motherboard. Double check everything.

That’s a good point. You never know what simple thing can get overlooked.

Of course I did! But thanks for the reminder.
