I'm just starting out with programming and I'm a bit unsure which direction to take. I'd love to hear from those of you who have some experience. Here are a few questions I have:
- What surprised you during your programming journey that you wish someone had told you early on?
- Is there a particular skill or habit that accelerated your learning process?
- How did you come to realize that you were in the right field, whether it's web, mobile, data, or something else?
Thanks in advance for your insights!

Dedication is key! It’s a lonely journey sometimes, so avoid tricking yourself into thinking shortcuts are the way to go. Instead of comparing your progress to others, focus on what you’re doing and just keep learning at your own pace. Don't get hung up on the time it takes to learn a stack; what matters is if you enjoy coding and are committed to it!
Focus on problem-solving. If you tackle real-world challenges that interest you, you’ll naturally find your niche in programming. Ask yourself what you’re passionate about creating—it’ll guide you to the right field!
Don’t get stuck only watching tutorials. They’re helpful, especially when starting out, but you really need to dive in and work on projects. Apply what you learn; that’s where the real growth happens!
Start with the basics that underpin all programming languages, like data types and algorithms. It’ll give you a solid foundation regardless of the path you choose. Try building something small to figure out what you enjoy!
It's tempting to rely on AI for solutions, but the real learning happens when you engage with tough problems, even if it takes hours or days. The sense of accomplishment when you solve something on your own is invaluable. Of course, using AI to clarify concepts can be helpful, just make sure you’re not skipping the struggle that helps you learn!
