Hey everyone! I've recently made the transition from tech support to IT management after spending 4 years in the hospitality industry. Despite my new role, I feel like I'm lacking some essential knowledge. What key information should I have for my position? Are there any specific certifications I should consider pursuing? Thanks a lot for your help, and I hope you all have a fantastic day!

It really depends on the kind of team you're managing. You should definitely have a solid grasp of your staff's responsibilities and some basic understanding of what you're outsourcing to vendors. It’s surprisingly common for IT managers to lack technical knowledge, so don't stress too much, but aiming for that foundational knowledge is key!

Thanks for the advice! I guess I should focus on understanding at least the basics of our systems and processes.

If you’re in Hospitality IT, just be prepared for a lot of troubleshooting! You'll often find yourself handling urgent issues on the fly. So, pick up skills in incident management and maybe a quick refresher on the technologies your team uses daily. That will go a long way!

Absolutely, it feels like I’m constantly putting out fires! Appreciate the insight.
