What Should I Know Before Switching to Linux?

I've been contemplating switching to Linux, but I have a few concerns. First, I'm worried that switching might void my warranty, but that's not a huge issue since it expires in November anyway. I know I need to back up my important files since I'll lose everything on my SSD when I install a Linux distro. I've managed to install hyfetch using WSL with the Ubuntu distro, but beyond that, I'm really not sure what else to do. I'm unsure about which Linux distribution to choose, what Desktop Environment (I remember KDE and GNOME, but I might be missing others), and how customizable these distros are. What can I do on Windows 11 that I can't do on Linux? Am I overlooking any key questions?

For beginners, I recommend trying Linux Mint. It comes with several Desktop Environments (DEs) like Cinnamon, XFCE, and MATE which you can choose based on your preference. Ubuntu and Fedora are also solid choices. Fedora is great for getting stable updates, while Debian is known for its reliability.

As for customization, it really depends on the DE. KDE is highly customizable, while GNOME is more limited but user-friendly. It might take a little time to get the hang of everything, but don’t worry; exploring is part of the fun!

I've heard a lot about Mint being beginner-friendly! Is there any specific reason you prefer it?
