What Should I Upgrade for Better Gaming Performance?

I'm trying to figure out what components to upgrade for smoother gaming in Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Fortnite. I feel like small upgrades won't cut it; I'd probably need to replace my CPU, motherboard, and RAM for a significant boost. I'm considering going for a Ryzen 9 5900X, but part of me thinks I might just be prolonging the inevitable if I don't switch to the AM5 platform. Here's my current setup:

* **CPU**: Ryzen 5 5600X
* **Motherboard**: GIGABYTE B550M K
* **RAM**: 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600 MHz
* **Graphics Card**: Zotac NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti
* **Storage**: NVMe Viper VP4300L 500GB + Lexar SSD NM620 1TB
* **Monitor**: AOC 25G3ZM 240Hz

If you're looking for real performance gains, the Ryzen 5900X isn't going to help much with gaming. Instead, consider upgrading your GPU; that’ll have a bigger impact. Plus, if you decide to move to AM5 later, you can still use the new GPU you'd buy now.

For the games you're playing, the x3D processors like the 5700X3D or 5800X3D could be worth checking out, especially if you can find one for a fair price (around $150-180). Although your 5600X is still solid, upgrading that GPU next could give you a nice performance boost since the market's easing up a bit.

Your 5600X is decent, but I’d definitely push for a better GPU at this point. You could also look into newer CPUs once you’re ready to upgrade the motherboard for AM5.
