Hey everyone! My custom-built desktop from 2016 is really starting to struggle, with frequent crashes and slow performance. I was planning a clean install of the OS, but it seems like my hardware is too outdated to even support Windows 11. I'm wondering what components I should consider upgrading to achieve solid performance. My goal is to run Baldur's Gate 3 smoothly at medium-high settings and 1080p, aiming for 60fps. Here's my current setup:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 7
- CPU: Intel i7-6700K
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (8GB)
- RAM: G.SKILL TridentZ 64GB DDR4
- PSU: SeaSonic 750KM3. Would love your advice!

If I were you, I'd keep your RAM and switch to an AM4 platform. A Ryzen 5 5600XT would work great with it!

You might want to consider Intel's 13th or 14th gen CPUs too; they're pretty fast!

Go for a Z790 platform using DDR4 models to maximize your RAM investment. I suggest an i7-14700K with a Z790 D4 motherboard, paired with a new GPU like the 5070 or 9070XT. You should be set!

Realistically, you should look at replacing the CPU, motherboard, and GPU. The power supply might need to go too due to its age. Your specific upgrades would depend on your budget and where you live.

Good point! I just checked, and the PSU still has a couple of years left on the warranty, so maybe I can keep it for now.
