What should I upgrade on my aging PC?

Hey everyone! After years of use, I'm finally considering upgrading my PC due to some issues I've been facing. I've noticed framerate drops, rendering problems (not too severe, but it's getting frustrating), and I also have a weird issue where a console window keeps popping up and tabbing me out of games. I suspect it might be a hardware problem, but I'm not very tech-savvy. Here are my specs, and I'd love any advice on what components I should focus on upgrading first. Thanks!

**Processor (CPU)**: Intel® Core™ i7 Quad Core i7-7740X (4.3GHz) 8MB Cache
**Motherboard**: Gigabyte X299 AORUS Gaming 3: ATX, USB 3.1, SATA 6 GB/s
**Memory (RAM)**: 16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2133MHz (2 x 8GB)
**Graphics Card**: 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080 - VR Ready
**Storage Drive**: 500GB SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 7200RPM

It really depends on your budget—how much are you looking to spend on upgrades? That'll help narrow down the best options for you!

You might not have a specific bottleneck, but your system’s performance is just lagging due to age. Both your CPU and GPU could use updates. An SSD upgrade could greatly improve your experience in the short term, but for a true performance boost, a whole new system might be necessary.

A storage upgrade to an SSD will definitely enhance performance for now while you plan for a full rebuild.

Yeah, an SSD would make a noticeable difference in boot and load times!

The console window issue isn't likely a hardware problem; it could be related to some software or malware you've picked up. As for your hardware, it’s high-end for its time, but it's showing its age now. If you're looking for a significant upgrade, it might be better to build a new system altogether instead of piecing together upgrades on what's outdated.

Your RAM speed could definitely be causing some slowdowns too. You might want to consider upgrading that along with your other components.

As your system is around 8 years old, it's quite outdated for gaming. Even entry-level modern CPUs have better performance. If you're aiming for a smoother experience and better compatibility with newer software, you're probably looking at a complete overhaul of your setup.

Sounds like a new system is the way to go! It's frustrating when things start to hold back your gaming.
