What to Know Before Buying a Gaming Monitor for Console Use?

I'm looking to buy a gaming monitor specifically for console gaming, like on the PlayStation, and have a few questions. First off, is it okay if I don't update it? Do monitors need charging, and can I use a universal remote to turn them on and off? I know HDMI and AV converters can connect, but what about coax cables? Also, do I need a keyboard to navigate the monitor? Lastly, if the monitor doesn't have built-in speakers, will I need to get some separately, and can I use the monitor without a computer tower?

If you want a hassle-free experience, consider a modern TV instead of a dedicated gaming monitor. They typically include built-in speakers, work well at 60Hz, and are often available in larger sizes at a similar price point.

You don't typically need to update monitors at all. Most don't even have a battery, so there's no charging involved. You just plug in your console via HDMI and start gaming. As for a remote, monitors usually don't come with one. They'll automatically go into sleep mode if the console does and wake up when you start playing again.

A monitor is primarily just a display and doesn't function like a TV, so it won't accept coaxial input. You'll likely need speakers since most monitors don't have built-in sound that's worth much. You don't need a keyboard unless your input source requires it, like if you're using a computer. Just ensure it has the right ports to connect your console.

Exactly! And if you're getting a monitor, go for a model that has good audio outputs if you plan on using external speakers.

Yeah, a good option would be looking into hybrid monitors that can offer great gaming experiences without all the fuss.
