What type of hard drive should I get for my Acer GX-781?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to install a new hard drive into my Acer GX-781 desktop that I got for free from a family member. It doesn't have a hard drive at all, and I'm completely lost on what type I need. Do I have to choose a specific kind, or can I pick one as long as it meets certain specifications? I realize the PC is a bit older, so it probably won't handle the latest heavy games like Genshin Impact (which my wife enjoys), but I would love to at least run games like The Sims. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for being a total novice, and English isn't my first language, so I hope I'm using the right terms!

Honestly, I recommend going with an SSD rather than a traditional hard drive. Most PCs from the last 20 years will support 2.5" SATA SSDs. Just make sure to double-check your specs to see if it can handle M.2 NVMe SSDs, which are more modern. They’re quicker but check compatibility first!

Thanks for the suggestions! Do you think this Kingston NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe 1TB M.2 SSD would work? It looks similar to what was in there before.

Actually, that won't work since you need a SATA M.2 SSD. While they look the same, the connections are different. Alternatively, you could go for a 2.5" SSD, which would work too. Check out this list of compatible options for your setup: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/#D=0&t=0&A=800000000000,24000000000000&sort=price&page=1.

Yeah, what Sam said—make sure to get the right interface! That's super important. A 2.5" SSD is an easy win.

You should be good with any SATA drive; it should work just fine. While 2.5" SATA SSDs are less common, they're still available if you want speed. It's a solid option for games like The Sims!
