What Upgrades Do I Need for 4K Gaming?

I'm looking to enhance my gaming setup, especially for smooth 4K gaming at 120fps. Currently, I've got an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080. I'm wondering if I need to upgrade my RAM and CPU to hit those performance targets. My budget is quite flexible, but I also want to make smart choices that future-proof my system. I was considering the NZXT Kraken 360 CPU cooler for quieter operation and monitoring temps. Any advice on what upgrades I should focus on or components to consider?

Honestly, your CPU might be a bottleneck for high FPS in some demanding games. Your 5080 is a beast, but the Ryzen 5 5600X can hold it back on the higher settings. If 4K gaming is your goal, consider fetching a 5800X3D or something higher with the AM5 platform. That'll give you a much smoother experience.

So, it sounds like upgrading to AM5 is a necessity for future-proofing. What are your thoughts on using my current DDR4 RAM?

Just a heads up—playing at 4K 120 FPS might be tricky even with all the upgrades. To get there, you’re looking to balance both CPU and GPU power. DLSS can help a lot, but your CPU's performance will still play a big role.

Totally get it. I just want to make sure my setup can hold up over time!

Liquid cooling is nice, but for your current CPU, I wouldn't prioritize spending $300 on an AIO cooler right now. There are cheaper air coolers that can do the job just fine. Focus on the PSU upgrade and maybe a CPU upgrade first. You want to make sure your system can handle the GPU properly before spending more on cooling.

Good to know! What PSU brands do you recommend?

You definitely need a new power supply! A 650W PSU is not enough for a 5080; you should aim for at least 850W for better headroom. For CPU, consider upgrading to a 5800X or even going for an AM5 setup with a 9600X if you're looking for more powerful options. Also, yeah, 32GB of RAM would be better for future-proofing your system. Don't forget about good cooling too!

Thanks for the tip! Should I avoid playing games until I sort the PSU?
