What’s a Fair Price for Developing a Full POS System with Inventory Management?

I'm looking to develop a sales system with several key features. It needs to handle barcode scanning for checkout and allow various payment methods such as QR, bank transfers, cash, and debit cards. At the end of each day, the system should generate a report that summarizes total sales broken down by payment method. Additionally, I need a product section where I can add and edit product details, including prices and stock levels. I also want features for promotions and discounts, along with a general database management system. Given these requirements, what would be a reasonable price to charge for this development?

To be honest, you'd probably want to charge around $50k as a starting point. This project sounds like it has a lot of moving parts. I'd suggest breaking it down into phases so you can deliver parts of the system incrementally and get paid as you progress. Trying to deliver everything at once could overwhelm you and your client.

I think $50k sounds a bit low for such a complex project. Considering it could take 3-6 months to develop, it might be better to price it per module. For example, a basic POS might cost around $15-20k, the inventory system another $10-15k, and a reporting dashboard could be another $5-10k. Plus don’t forget maintenance costs!
