What’s a Good Affordable GPU for 4K Gaming?

I'm getting ready to build my first PC and would love some guidance on choosing a decent GPU for 4K gaming. Just to clarify, I'm looking for something that's capable of running 4K without breaking the bank. I don't need the absolute best, like an RTX 5090, since I'm not really sure I'd notice the difference between 60fps and 120fps. I just want something that's solid for 4K, even if it means lower frame rates—I'm not a graphics purist and can make that trade-off.

For a decent entry-level 4K, I'd recommend looking at the Radeon RX 9070 XT or the RTX 5070 Ti. Both can handle 4K gaming well enough for most titles.

Totally agree! Plus, Nvidia’s DLSS can help improve performance at those higher resolutions.

It really comes down to your performance needs. For a solid 4K experience at 60fps, the 4080 or 5070 Ti are good bets, but if you want to push for higher frame rates, consider the 4090 or 5080.

You can find the 9070 XT for around $650 and the 7900 XTX for $800-900. The 5080 is more like $1000+, which is getting pretty pricey for just a bit more performance.

The RX 9070 XT and 5070 Ti can deliver around 60 FPS at Ultra settings, which is pretty playable for 4K. Just keep in mind that the 5080 is a step up but comes with a pretty big price increase for a smaller performance boost.

Yeah, I've seen benchmarks show only a slight difference in performance for the price jump.

If you’re set on frame rates, remember that 60fps vs 120fps is a significant gap. If your monitor is 1440p, it might be comparable to a 32" 4K in terms of PPI, so that's worth considering when making your choice.
