I've recently been looking to put together a new PC build and noticed that RAM prices have skyrocketed. I was planning on getting 64 GB of DDR5, which was around $600 just a few days ago, but now it's gone up to $900! What's happening with RAM prices? Is this a good time to buy, or should I wait for things to calm down? It seems like a lot of people are building right now, so could this be tied to supply and demand?

Yeah, this AI boom is consuming so much memory and chips. I wouldn’t wait too long. It’s likely to get worse before it gets better. Just part of the game these days.
I wanted to upgrade my system too, and the RAM I got a couple of years ago is nearly twice as expensive now. I just hope we can see a return to reasonable prices eventually!
If you're thinking about buying, I recommend doing it now. Prices are expected to rise even more, especially with the ongoing demand for RAM due to AI. It’s tough to predict when things will normalize, so getting it sooner rather than later might be wise.
It seems like a lot of the RAM has been snagged up by companies working on AI technologies. This is leading to a shortage for consumers. Even though production might eventually catch up, many manufacturers have shifted towards more profitable products for datacenters, which impacts the availability of DDR5.
Any idea how much longer this could last? It feels so unpredictable right now.
With the transition from DDR4 to DDR5, many manufacturers are moving away from DDR4 production, which could push prices higher. If DDR4 goes up too much, it's likely that consumers will gravitate towards DDR5, boosting its demand even more. Right now, the AI boom is a big factor in driving up RAM prices.
It's kind of crazy how all of this AI stuff is impacting our tech; I wish prices would return to normal soon!
Yeah, it’s frustrating! I just hope the prices come down before I need to upgrade.

I've heard that AI is claiming production for years ahead, so it might take a while before we see prices stabilize.
