Is it okay to use AI tools for front-end development in my portfolio if I’m a back-end developer?

I'm a back-end software engineer with some basic skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I'm not great at creating visually appealing applications, so I'm considering using AI tools to help with the front-end aspect of a project for my portfolio. Career-wise, is this a good strategy, or would it hurt my chances if potential employers found out? I'm looking for constructive feedback, not negativity.

Go for it! But keep in mind that a portfolio is just one piece of the puzzle when applying for software engineering roles. Focus on showcasing real projects that demonstrate your problem-solving abilities rather than just the aesthetics. If it's a back-end role, interviewers care more about your skills than your front-end design.

While using AI tools can speed things up, relying solely on them could backfire. It's essential to understand the code you're working with, or it might show in your final work. Keep some personal flair in your projects to prove your skills.

I'd recommend having a GitHub account that showcases your actual coding skills for back-end work. A sleek, flashy website may not impress many, especially if they prefer straightforward and relevant examples of your experience.

I think using AI tools can be helpful, but don’t lean on them too much. Try to design some elements on your own first, and let the AI enhance your work. It helps make it look more personal and less like it was thrown together by a bot.

It's totally fine to use AI-generated front-end code as long as you’re honest about it. Just remember, if you try to pretend the code is all yours, you’ll likely get caught since it's usually pretty obvious. Just be upfront about the AI assistance; integrity counts more than a flashy portfolio.
