I've been using the Pypistats website to check the popularity of various Python packages, but it seems to have been down for about a month. Can anyone shed some light on what's happening?

While you're waiting, you might want to check out Clickhouse. They provide a lot more detailed statistics. You can find it at clickpy.clickhouse.com/dashboard.
If you're looking for updates, it's a good idea to check the GitHub repository for Pypistats. They have an issue tracker where you can see if there are any reported problems. Here's the link to their issues page: github.com/crflynn/pypistats.org/issues/82.
Another alternative to Pypistats is pepy.tech. It’s worth checking out!
Also, did you know that Pypistats is part of a public dataset on BigQuery? That might be another resource to explore while Pypistats is down.
I understand your frustration! A few people have been trying to contact the maintainer, but it looks like they haven't been able to get a response yet. It's pretty unclear why the site stopped working in the first place.
