What’s the Best AM4 CPU Upgrade for My RX 7600?

I've been upgrading my PC for better performance until I can do a complete rebuild. Right now, I'm using a Ryzen 5 5600G with a RX 7600, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 1TB NVMe drive, all powered by an 850W PSU. Lately, I've been experiencing stuttering and FPS drops, which seem to be due to CPU bottlenecking. I'm considering upgrading my CPU for more stable performance. I've heard the Ryzen 7 5800X3D could be a good choice, but I'm wondering if that might be overkill given my setup. Any suggestions for the best AM4 CPU to pair with my RX 7600?

Just a heads up, the 5600G does sacrifice some cache due to its integrated graphics, which might be affecting your performance. You could try monitoring the GPU usage while gaming. Is it hitting 100% consistently? Also, keep in mind that the market for X3D CPUs is drying up, so you might want to act quickly if you decide to go that route!

I think your 5600G should handle the RX 7600 pretty well, so there's a chance your issues aren't just from the CPU. You might want to check your RAM configuration and ensure it’s installed correctly. If you have two modules, they should be in slots 2 and 4 to optimize dual-channel performance.

If you're looking to upgrade on the AM4 socket and want something solid for gaming, definitely consider the X3D CPUs. They're great, just keep in mind their prices have shot up—often over $300, which is pretty steep. If it gets too pricey, you might want to think about holding off and transitioning to AM5 instead for better longevity with future upgrades.

A lot of people are suggesting the Ryzen 5800XT as a good middle-ground option—it's around $160 and provides decent performance without breaking the bank. Still, remember that AM4 is becoming obsolete, so investing too much might not be wise in the long run. Save a bit more, go for AM5 with a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM, and you'll thank yourself later!
