I'm putting together a gaming rig for my brother this Christmas, but with DDR5 prices skyrocketing, I'm leaning toward a budget-friendly DDR4 build. I'm considering whether 64GB of RAM would be overkill for his needs. Is 64GB necessary, or would something less suffice for 1440p gaming?

Honestly, 32GB is plenty for gaming at 1440p. Going with a 2x16GB setup of DDR4-3200 or even 3600 would give you great performance without breaking the bank. Just make sure you're avoiding the lower-end stuff for better speeds.
For gaming, 64GB is more than you really need. Most games run perfectly fine with just 16GB. If he occasionally dabbles in things like AutoCAD, then 32GB would be a sweet spot. You don't want to overspend when you don't have to!

Thanks! I'll aim for around 32GB then.
