What’s the Best First Upgrade for My Girlfriend’s Gaming PC?

I'm looking to surprise my girlfriend with a Christmas gift to upgrade her PC, as she wants better performance for gaming and graphic design. Her current setup includes an AMD Radeon RX 5700, an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and a MAG B550 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI motherboard. I'm not very experienced with upgrades, and I was considering giving her my Radeon 6600 XT when I upgrade to a 7900 XTX for my own build. Is that a good choice for her CPU? Should I consider RAM upgrades too? Any suggestions would be super helpful!

Just a heads up, don't give her your old card as a 'gift' if it's hand-me-down; that could lead to some awkward moments. If she doesn't already have an SSD, that might be the best upgrade you can make. If she's still on an HDD, switching to SSD will make a world of difference! Otherwise, save for a bigger upgrade down the road after solidifying what she actually needs.

Haha, I totally get that! I'll check what storage she has. Thanks!

With RAM prices being what they are, I wouldn't rush to buy more unless she's really hitting limitations with 16 GB. A Ryzen 5 5600 or better would be a great CPU upgrade, but a 7900 XTX might be overkill. A 6700 XT could be a more balanced choice. The 6600 XT paired with the 3600 will work well together.

Upgrading to the 6600 XT and adding more RAM sounds like a smart move. However, considering she's into Fortnite and graphic design, a CPU upgrade could give her the most significant boost in performance.

Thanks for the advice!

What apps does she use for graphic design? A newer CPU can make a difference depending on her software. The 3600 still pairs well with a newer GPU, so an upgrade could definitely help her.

She works with Adobe and Davinci Resolve.
