I'm on the hunt for a gaming monitor that looks amazing, especially under $300. I recently bought the AOC Q27G3XMN 27" 2K QHD Gaming Monitor because it seemed like a great deal, especially as it's one of the cheapest HDR1000 rated monitors. However, when I turn HDR on, everything looks washed out and dull. Did I get a faulty unit, or is there something better out there?

You should definitely take a look at Rtings for detailed reviews. They've got some great info on the best monitors around your budget.
For your budget, mini LED monitors could be the answer. They have great black levels and contrast. Just keep in mind they can sometimes smear a bit, especially if they're VA panels. My VA panel smears text a little, but I don’t really notice it when gaming, so it might not be a big deal for you!
For deep blacks and vibrant colors, you might want to check out OLED monitors. They have really great contrast and can be found for about 230 euros if you know where to look. I got mine from Samsung, and it's been fantastic!
Is it really 17 inches or what?
Which model did you get for that price?
