I'm looking to get back into using Linux for gaming and would love to hear your recommendations! I have no prior experience with it but I'm drawn to Linux because it generally feels more secure against viruses compared to Windows. I'm aware that there are some Linux viruses, but they seem less common than those for Windows. I'm especially interested in learning the ropes of Linux and would prefer a distribution that has KDE as its desktop environment, though I'm okay with switching to another one if needed.

I play games from the Epic Games Store and Steam, and I sometimes use emulators like those for PS3 and PS Vita. Just to give you an idea of my hardware, I have a Pentium Gold CPU with integrated graphics and 16GB of DDR3 RAM. What's the best Linux distro for my gaming setup?

Depending on what you're running, PopOS is an awesome option for gaming, especially with Nvidia graphics cards. It was super easy to set up and works great with Wine and Lutris, which you'll likely need for some games.

I've heard good things about Bazzite and Nobara as well! They seem to be solid choices according to a lot of gamers in the forum. Just a heads up though, the performance can vary based on your setup, so it might take a little experimenting.

CachyOS is my top pick for gaming! You can try it in live mode before fully committing, and it comes with KDE by default. Plus, the performance is pretty solid across various hardware setups.

If you're looking to play Vita games, I think Fedora might have a related emulator available through Flatpak. Also, Knoppix can be a good option with Wine for Windows-based emulators—just remember you might need a Windows partition for that to work.

It really all comes down to your specific hardware. For me, Fedora works great on my desktop which has standard hardware. However, my laptop requires specific patches from CachyOS, so I switch it up there. If you're handling multiple monitors or need features like VRR, KDE is definitely the way to go!
