What’s the Best Linux Distro for Gaming?

I'm planning to switch from Windows 11 to a Linux operating system for gaming, but I've heard concerns about driver compatibility, especially with Nvidia and AMD graphics. I've only come across Ubuntu, but I'm not convinced it's the best choice for gaming. Are there any distributions that handle drivers better or are particularly suited for gaming?

Just so you know, some games that require kernel-level anti-cheat won't run well on Linux due to the lack of a widely accepted Linux solution. Windows has a closed environment that makes it easier to manage, which is not the case with the open-source nature of Linux. Just something to keep in mind!

Look for a distro that comes with proprietary drivers out of the box for video and sound. Mint or Kubuntu LTS are both great options since they have native Steam clients, which is a big plus!

Drivers can be a hurdle, especially with newer hardware that might not be supported yet. I recommend checking Distrowatch for comparisons and reviews on different distros—it could help in making your choice!

Honestly, it doesn't matter too much which distro you choose; just go for something like Ubuntu or Linux Mint. They all work pretty well for gaming, in my experience!

Have you checked out Nobara Linux? It was specifically designed with gaming in mind and might be exactly what you're looking for!

I tried Ubuntu for gaming, but I had a tough time with Flight Sim 2024—kept crashing on me. Just a heads up if you’re considering Ubuntu for that kind of game!

CachyOS is a solid option, and I've heard others mention it does a good job handling drivers for gaming. You can actually game on most distributions as long as they don't have trouble with kernel-level anti-cheat systems. Just be aware that Nvidia sometimes has issues with VRAM swapping and games using DirectX 12.

If you're looking for a recommendation, Bazzite is pretty awesome for gaming! You might want to give it a shot.
