Hey everyone! I'm completely new to Linux and not very tech savvy, so I hope you can help me out. I'm looking for the best Linux distribution that's good for gaming and also allows for some school work. I've heard a bit about Bazzite but I'm curious if it's user-friendly for beginners. Would Bazzite work well for general usage or is it strictly for gaming? I currently play a lot of games through different platforms like Steam, GOG, and even emulators while using Windows 11. I also frequently use Discord. I've been getting mixed opinions on whether games run better on Linux compared to Windows. Does it depend on the specific game? I would really appreciate your insights! Here are my specs in case it's relevant:
- GPU: Nvidia 3060ti
- CPU: Intel i7 11700k
- RAM: 16GB
P.S. I also have games on Epic Games, which I forgot to mention!

My suggestion is to dual boot between a debloated version of Windows 11 and SteamOS. Unfortunately, the gaming industry isn’t super Linux-friendly yet. Dual booting lets you enjoy the best of both worlds!
Dual boot can be useful, but be sure to evaluate your needs. A gaming-oriented distro like SteamOS might be worth exploring, too. Try Linux exclusively for a couple of weeks and see how it works for you. You can always revert back if it doesn’t fit!
That sounds like a great plan! Just commit to the process and see if Linux is the right fit for your gaming habits.
Consider Nobara or even Linux Mint! Look into different Desktop Environments to find one that suits your style. But definitely back up your data before diving in! Good luck!
For games on Epic and GOG, the Heroic Launcher is your friend! And yeah, Bazzite is beginner-friendly; I started with it myself. It’s not just for gaming—you can definitely use it as a regular operating system too. Just remember that game performance can vary depending on the title.
If you want something cutting-edge with speedy updates, try CachyOS. But if you prefer a stable out-of-the-box experience, Bazzite is a solid choice. It definitely should give you a good balance for both gaming and school tasks.

Just a heads up, SteamOS doesn’t play nicely with Nvidia GPUs.
