I'm considering making the switch to Linux after getting a new 2TB SSD (total 3TB now), and I'm trying to figure out the best distro for a beginner like me that allows for both gaming and work. Should I dual boot or go for a full migration? Also, I'd like to know if moving to Linux will disrupt my files and games in any way. For context, I have an ASUS RTX 3060 Ti 8GB and a Ryzen 5 7600X3D.

Mint has a nice interface for new users and offers easy GUI tools. Just back up your important data before you switch. But if you want something more cutting-edge, LMDE7 is more current, although it may require some extra setup for Nvidia drivers.

Bazzite is running great for me as a gaming-centered system. It also works for regular tasks, so it could be an option for you!

If you’re considering a more gaming-focused setup, look into the Valve Steam Machine. Although it’s primarily a gaming platform, it can handle work tasks too. Just be prepared to approach things differently than on Windows.

I recommend trying CachyOS! It's great for gaming performance but not solely focused on that, so you can handle work tasks without a problem.

Dual booting might be your best bet if you want to get a feel for Linux without fully committing. I did that for 20 years before going all in, and it helped me learn a lot. Linux Mint is a solid starting point with good hardware support and is user-friendly.
