I'm looking for advice on which Linux distribution I should install on my girlfriend's older laptop. This is my first time installing Linux, and I want to ensure the process is as smooth as possible. She enjoys playing a few indie games and may also want to store and edit photos. I want to avoid the hassle of trying to install Windows 11 on a machine that doesn't support it. Any suggestions for a user-friendly distro that handles these tasks well?

Linux Mint is a solid choice, especially for beginners. It's user-friendly and should cover your girlfriend's needs without much hassle. If you need some guidance, check out Explaining Computers on YouTube for helpful tutorials on Linux for newbies!
Honestly, if I were you, I'd just go for a refurbished laptop that's a bit newer, but if you're set on this one, I'd suggest looking at BigLinux if it has 4GB or more RAM—works pretty well with proprietary drivers!
If I could, I would go for a refurb, but we're on a tight budget, and this old laptop needs to do for some indie games!
If she's used to Windows, Mint is great. If she’s more of a Mac user, consider Ubuntu or Elementary OS. Also, Zorin is awesome for Windows users and has a nice interface!
I'd also throw in Debian if you're up for trying different desktop environments!
Definitely a good point! It’s all about what she finds comfortable.

Perfect! I was leaning towards Mint but felt overwhelmed, so thanks for the reassurance!
