What’s the Best Linux Distro for Slow Laptops?

I'm looking for a lightweight Linux distribution for my old Sony Vaio P788K, as it struggles to run Windows 7. I've considered trying Vista, but I've heard it's slow too. This is my first time using Linux, so I need some recommendations that can perform well on older hardware.

If you're a beginner and your laptop is really old, I recommend Lubuntu or Xubuntu. For those who are more experienced with Linux, you might want to try Arch with a minimal install.

Thanks for the tips! I'll check out Lubuntu and Xubuntu.

Bodhi Linux is a great choice because it doesn’t feel too stripped down and runs smoothly.

I've also had good luck with Bodhi on older machines!

MX Linux has worked wonders on my 2011 MacBook Air with 4GB of RAM. AntiX is another solid option for slow devices.

AntiX Linux (32-bit) is probably your best bet. It's user-friendly and based on Debian, which is excellent for older hardware. Just make sure it's 32-bit since your laptop has an Intel Atom Z530.

Linux Mint with the Xfce desktop environment works really well on my ancient Lenovo T61, so it could be a good fit for your Vaio too!
