What’s the Best Option for Sending Transactional Emails?

I'm embarking on a project that requires sending out transactional emails like welcome messages, password resets, and receipts. There are so many APIs available, such as SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark, SES, SparkPost, Brevo, and more, and I'm trying to figure out which ones actually perform well based on real-life use.

I'm particularly concerned about deliverability, reliability, ease of integration, and pricing, especially as I aim to scale. Honestly, I'm looking for an option that won't be a hassle to maintain and that reliably lands emails in inboxes. If anyone has experience with these services or others, I'd love to hear what you like, what has been problematic, and any recommendations you have!

I've been using Postmark for my transactional emails, and I really love it! The deliverability is impressive, and emails land right in the inbox instead of getting lost in spam. Their API is super easy to integrate, and the documentation is clear, plus they focus solely on transactional emails without overwhelming you with unnecessary features. Their pricing is straightforward—you pay only for what you use. It might not be the cheapest for very low volumes, but once you scale, the reliability and performance make it worth it! Definitely give Postmark a look if you want something efficient and hassle-free.

I’ve had a great experience with Resend as well. They offer a generous free tier and the integration has been smooth for my needs.

For pricing and reliability, AWS SES is the cheapest option and pretty straightforward if you have a grasp of basic programming. Remember that your domain reputation plays a crucial role in deliverability, more than anything else.

So far, I've had no issues using AWS SES. Just keep in mind that you have to apply to Amazon and assure them you won’t spam customers, which is honestly pretty straightforward. However, I’m open to suggestions for non-Amazon alternatives, especially European ones.

Check out Mailjet! It’s a French service I’ve used for years and it works great.

You might also look into Sendune, which acts as a wrapper for AWS SES and simplifies the process of sending transactional emails.

If you want something that just works without making you worry about deliverability, I recommend Postmark. For other options, I had a decent experience with SendGrid, though I found it less reliable on the cheaper plans without a dedicated IP. If budget allows, I’d personally choose Postmark given their solid support and great logging for troubleshooting.
